We also provide expert witness and court litigation support, as well as testimony in relation to digital evidence in criminal and civil matters.
We believe that each process of forensics discovery is different, thus we will work with you to fully understand your needs and expectations and to develop a precise forensic investigation strategy which is best suitable in your circumstances. To assure that both sides have a full understanding of your unique case the first consultation is offered on a pro bono basis (without payment), and after this consultation we will provide you with a specific quote for our services. When working with our clients and performing any computer forensics analysis the utmost care and consideration is always our top priority.
What makes Computer Forensis Consulting different is our extensive industry and academic background, as well as our very high level of formal qualifications (see About/Contact Us page). We have the ability to image (acquire) data contained on computer hard disk drives, CDs/DVDs, USB memory sticks and other storage media without altering the originals, thus preserving the integrity of the originals which can be used later as evidentiary material in a court of law. In some cases some data may be impossible to retrieve, for example when a strong encryption was used, and the encrypting key is unknown. While some investigators make claims that “computer forensics can always retrieve everything”; this type of claim is simply incorrect. We will always make the situation clear to you and present you with the available options.
Once the data is retrieved and analysed we will also provide an expert report consistent with industry practices. Our extensive academic background and many years of computer forensics research and teaching at the university level allows us to present the findings in a clear and concise format without missing important details.
“forensis” vs. “forensics”
The Latin word “forensis” means: relating to the forum or a legal business conducted in public. It entered the English vocabulary in the 17th century as the term “forensics”.
The term “computer forensics” is singled out from a more general forensis category and represents a subset of that category. The modern meaning of forensic is limited to the areas of legal and criminal investigations, where it refers to using a broad spectrum of sciences to answer questions of interest to the legal system. Computer forensics is a multidisciplinary field of forensic science encompassing computer science, computer engineering, and law, and it aims to solve, document, and enable prosecution of computer crime.
